Anime Community Unites To Help KYOTO ANIMATION

In the wake of the devastating attack on the Kyoto Animation studio, the animation community was quick to respond. Both fans and industry members alike banded together to raise awareness and spread messages of sympathy and dedication to the legacy the studio created.

The industry side of the efforts answered the call to action by created many fundraising opportunities to help in the wake of the disaster. Sentai Filmworks started a GoFundMe which has already raised over 1.5 million dollars to help the victims of the tragedy. Crunchyroll helped to put together a list of the different movements which have been set up to help in this time of need.

The fans were also quick to take action. Awareness of the event kept alive on social media thanks to hashtags like #PrayForKyoAni, #KyoAni, and #PrayForKyoaniが世界に拡散. Dedications to the works of Kyoto Animation were also included in the posts with mentions of favorite series and messages of sympathy and concern for all those affected by the attack.

It is touching to see everyone come together in this time of tragedy. Fans can often become divided and opinionated when it comes to anime, displaying very little common ground. Still, in the wake of a disaster, many put aside their differences aside and found ways to spread their messages of hope, gratitude, and peace. It is a shame moments like this are not a more common occurrence.

Though there has been no word on future projects previously planned by the studio, one can only hope the messages of encouragement and fundraising efforts can help Kyoto Animation to be rebuilt or continue in some form. For now, awareness and keeping the message alive of the traumatic events will do a lot to help with restoration efforts. Keep up the fantastic work everyone.
