First Brazilian Zombie Show on Netflix Announced in REALITY Z

A new announcement from Netflix came out of the Rio Creative Conference’s primetime panel recently, in that a new zombie-inspired show, Reality Z, would launch in 2020.

The streaming giant continues to expand globally, but also in unveiling numerous upcoming Brazilian projects. The new zombie series will be based on the critically-acclaimed undead British show, Dead Set, which was created by Charlie Brooker.

The series was adapted by executive producer Cláudio Torres and will serve as an ode to horror, but include humor and pop culture references. It will narrate in a five-episode format which will center around a zombie apocalypse which has imprisoned participants and producers of a reality show called, Olimpo: The House of the Gods. The studio ultimately becomes a shelter for those seeking salvation in Rio de Janeiro.

“My challenge was to turn a five-part anthology miniseries into a series that can unfold into many seasons without losing the spirit, humor and social critique that Charlie conceived in the original Dead Set,” said Torres. “For a fantastic movie fan, directing the first Brazilian zombie series is a gift that Netflix gave me.”

The series stars include: Guilherme Weber, Jesus Luz, Ana Hartmann, Emilio de Mello, Carla Ribas, Luellem de Castro, Ravel Andrade and Sabrina Sato. Renata Brandão will executive produce with Torres, who will also serve in a directorial role in conjunction with Rodrigo Monte.

This marks the first time that Netflix has collaborated with Conspiração, one of the biggest indie feature film production companies in all of Brazil. The series is set to premiere worldwide in 2020.
