“Genre: Superhero Horror,” those are the first words on the BrightBurn press release that went out Saturday with the initial trailer. Then you notice this a James Gunn produced film and the interest level goes through the roof. As BrightBurn an Anti-Superhero film is the first movie Gunn will be attached to since his dismissal from Disney and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.
It is funny that Sony thinks it invented a new genre. If you walked into a comic book shop, you would find several books that are Superhero Horror, Superman: Red Son is the first title to come to mind.
About BrightBurn:
What if a child from another world crash-landed on Earth, but instead of becoming a hero to mankind, he proved to be something far more sinister?
The film is directed by David Yarovesky, from a script by Mark Gunn and Brian Gunn, and stars Elizabeth Banks, David Denman, Jackson A. Dunn, Matt Jones, and Meredith Hagner.
BrightBurn hits theaters May 24, 2019.
