SDCC: The Thrilling STEVEN UNIVERSE THE MOVIE Trailer Has Arrived

San Diego Comic-Con has delivered what fans of Steven Universe have been waiting for, the trailer for the Steven Universe The Movie. A lot can be unpacked here so watch the trailer first before getting to the discussion.

The trailer reveals a lot of changes occurred since the season finale of the sixth season of the show. Steven and the Crystal Gems have been working to help free all the worlds under the control of the Gem Homeworld. He has matured (grown a necK) and his relationship with Connie has gotten stronger. The new mysterious menace seems to be coming with the expressed intent of not only defeating Steven but also destroying all life on the planet. The enemy also seems to have learned from the same school of combat as an opponent in the video game Cuphead complete with body physics reminiscent of golden age cartoons.

This trailer seems like the ideal project after the season finale. Many fans feel the finale was closer to being a series finale as all the major loose ends of the show were wrapped up. What was desperately needed was a plot development to be introduced. With the addition of a new enemy and time skip, there is plenty of new areas to explore. Even if the new enemy is defeated easily, there is a possibility they are the first of an invading force. The use of a time skip introduces the aspect characters have changed and developed in the lost time. Already it has been shown Steven and Connie are connecting as a legitimate couple but what about other characters? What has happened between Sadie and Lars? Whatever the case the movie seems like it will give the fans exactly what they truly desire: More of Steven Universe.
