The Monstrous Possibilities The End Credit Scene Of GODZILLA: KING OF THE MONSTERS Could Mean For The Monsterverse

With Godzilla: King of the Monsters (KOTM) out, fans can start to anticipate the next entry in the Monsterverse franchise: Godzilla vs. Kong. With a release date of March 13th 2020, fans will not have to wait long but the events of KOTM has left it apparent a new threat may be on the horizon in future films.

The post credit scene sets up a coming danger on the horizon. Returning to Isla Da Mara, the island where Rodan was asleep, the leader of the environmental terrorists Jonah Alan (played by Charles Dance) is shown the discarded head of King Ghidorah. Jonah insists “We’ll take it” which leaves many to speculate what this could mean.

The most logical answer to this question is Jonah will use the remains of the Ghidorah head to create a monster which can dethrone Godzilla from his position as the King of every Titan on the planet. This means the introduction of a new Titan and the good chance of one of Godzilla’s old foes finding a way into the Monsterverse. Looking back at Godzilla’s gallery of rogues, five possibilities emerge.

1. Mecha King Ghidorah
This is the first possibility many on the internet went straight for. In Godzilla vs. King Ghidorah, thanks to time travel (just go with it), a wounded King Ghidorah is made into a cyborg, renamed Mecha King Ghidorah, and is sent back to fight Godzilla. Though there was more to work with in the previous film (Ghidorah had only lost a head instead of losing its entire body) a new version of this character may be on the horizon.

2. Biollante
The next four entries in this list come from the idea Jonah and his comrades will experiment on Ghidorah’s head, use its genetic material, and create a new monster (which will resemble a classic monster) to enter the battle. The first of these is Biollante, a monster made from combining Godzilla’s DNA with a rose. Replace Godzilla’s genetic material with Ghidorah and a new Biollante can enter the fray. The appearance of Biollante would also make sense with the whole “eco terrorists trying to retake the Earth” angle.

3.Space Godzilla
The creation of Space Godzilla was theorized as coming from Godzilla material being dropped into a blackhole. An easier way of creating this creature would be to cross Godzilla and King Ghidorah’s DNA. Of course if this genetic combination seems too far fetched to result in the creation of a Titan so power, there is another option…

4. Monster X
The mysterious Monster X was created to be a main opponent in Godzilla: Final Wars. It later transformed into Keizer Ghidorah (another version of King Ghidorah) so a perfect connection point to the ideas behind this list is created. Monster X would be the creation of crossing Godzilla’s and Ghidorah’s DNA and could later grow into a three headed form with wings for the final battle.

A being which was awaken by the only weapon to kill Godzilla, the Oxygen Destroyer (which was reintroduced in KOTM) this was the last monster created by Toho before the infamous 1998 Sony film. This time though, it might be better to insist instead of just Ghidorah, more monsters are used in the creation so as to showcase Destroyah being the ultimate Titan.

Given how menacing Destroyah is from appearance along, its use could serve as a way to wrap up the Monsterverse. It would a being which ends up going wild and destroying all other Titans it comes across. It would be an extreme way of wrapping up the series but it would be a memorable one.
