Three Episode Report: WATATEN! AN ANGEL FLEW DOWN TO ME

Wataten

Time to look at some anime with the new series, Wataten! An Angel Flew Down to Me. Welcome to Three Episode Report. This article will judge an anime on its first three episodes to show if it gets a PASS (meaning it passed and more episodes need to be watched) or a FAIL (meaning you probably should not watch it any further). Today’s subject is based on an 4-panel manga and is littered with cute girls doing cute things.

Summary

Miyako, a shy college student finds herself obsessing over her sister Hinata’s friend Hana. Using her skills with a sewing machine to make costumes for Hana in hopes she will wear them but Hana is uneasy about Miyako, who may have to butter Hana up first with some sweets.

Positive

The good parts of this show are…um…wait a minute. Give it a second…well, the series is about cute girls and the characters designs are indeed adorable. For fans who are looking for a show filled with sugar charged little moppets who have adventures and antics than this will be the show for you. Otherwise…

Negative

The crimes of this show range from bland to downright disturbing. The bland part comes from the comedy. This show isn’t funny. It’s running jokes include Miyako’s creepy behavior around Hana and the girls being cute or zany.

Wataten
If this child goes missing, Miyako should be the first one to be questioned.

Meanwhile the downright disturbing part comes from the main premise. Miyako is a college student obsessing over a 5th grader. This is wrong. Hana herself even points this out and makes the joke about calling the police but doesn’t follow through it because she is given treats. No, Hana! You should have gone with your gut and called the cops. Miyako needs to go talk with a therapist for her creepy obsession with you. Still not convinced? After getting Hana into a costume, one of Miyako’s first thoughts is to lay on stomach while she takes pictures. This position is usually used by perverts when they are trying to get a shot up a cosplayer’s dress. Feel creeped out yet?

Grade

This show gets a massive FAIL! Stay far away from it. This is one of those times where absolutely nothing good can come from watching a series. There are much better shows out there, even ones featuring cute girls being cute. Go check Anima Yell instead. At least it won’t make you feel immoral after you watch it.
